Letter to Families - February 11th

Dear families,

The Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board is deeply saddened by the tragedy that occurred yesterday in B.C.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the students, staff, families, and community members impacted by this and all those who are struggling with this news. In times like this, we are reminded of the importance of caring for one another.

Our priority is the safety and health of our students, staff and communities, and for that reason, I am writing to check in on families.

Today in our schools we prayed for the community of Tumbler Ridge. Flags were lowered on all ALCDSB sites in solidarity for all who are suffering.

Please note that supports are available at the school level, and we encourage students and families to reach out to school administration to access supports such as School Chaplains, Child and Youth Workers, and Social Workers.

Additional resources for support for students and families:

As a community of faith, we stand together in solidarity, supporting one another with compassionate eyes, acts of kindness, and prayers during this difficult time.

“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” (Psalm 34:18)

Sincerely,

Carey Smith-Dewey

Director of Education
